Will GTA 6 Be on PS4 or Xbox One? Confirmed Facts

· Sources checked · Rumors labeled

No. GTA 6 will not be on PS4 or Xbox One. Rockstar has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI launches only on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026, and no last-generation console version is planned. If you are still on a PS4 or Xbox One, you will need to move to a current-generation console (or wait for a possible PC release) to play GTA 6.

GTA 6 platforms at a glance (as of July 2026):

Platform GTA 6 available? Notes

Xbox Series X/S Confirmed Launch day, Nov 19, 2026

Is GTA 6 confirmed for PS4 or Xbox One?

No. GTA 6 is not confirmed for PS4 or Xbox One, and there is no evidence Rockstar plans to bring it to either. According to Rockstar's official pre-order listing, which opened on June 25, 2026, Grand Theft Auto VI can only be pre-ordered for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Rockstar's own product page lists just those two platforms. When a company opens paid pre-orders for specific systems and names no others, that is about as close to a definitive "current-gen only" answer as you get before launch.

This lines up with everything Rockstar has said since the game was first revealed: GTA 6 is a current-generation title built for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S hardware.

Why isn't GTA 6 coming to last-gen consoles?

GTA 6 is skipping PS4 and Xbox One because of raw hardware limits. The PS4 launched in 2013 and the Xbox One the same year, and their CPUs, memory, and storage speeds are more than a decade behind current consoles. GTA 6's Vice City and the surrounding state of Leonida are being built with a density of traffic, crowds, weather, and detail that last-gen machines cannot drive without severe compromises.

It is a different situation from GTA 5, which launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013 and was later rebuilt for newer hardware. That game was designed from the start around 2013-era consoles. GTA 6 is designed around 2020-era consoles, so there is no straightforward way to scale it back down.

What are your options if you only have a PS4 or Xbox One?

If GTA 6 is the game that finally pushes you to upgrade, GTA 6 gives you a few realistic paths:

  • Buy an Xbox Series S — the cheapest way onto current-gen. It runs GTA 6 but is the least powerful confirmed option.
  • Buy a PS5 or Xbox Series X — the standard experience most players will have on launch day.
  • Consider a PS5 Pro if you want the highest fidelity, though it is not required. See our breakdown of whether you need a PS5 Pro for GTA 6.
  • Wait for a possible PC version if you would rather play on a computer you already own or plan to build.

Budgeting for the console and the game together matters, since GTA 6's Standard and Ultimate editions carry their own cost on top of the hardware. Our guide on how much GTA 6 costs walks through both.

Will GTA 6 come to PC?

A GTA 6 PC version is not confirmed. As of July 2026 Rockstar has announced no PC release and no date for one. History is the only guide here: GTA 5 reached PC roughly 18 months after its console debut, and Red Dead Redemption 2 arrived on PC about a year after launch. If GTA 6 follows that pattern, a PC edition would likely land one to two years after the console version. That is a reasonable expectation, not a promise, so treat it as an educated guess rather than a confirmed plan. Read our full look at GTA 6 on PC for the details.

What would change this answer?

Only Rockstar can change this, and nothing suggests it will. A last-gen GTA 6 would require re-engineering the game around far weaker hardware, which studios almost never do this late. The realistic "change" to watch for is the opposite direction: an eventual official PC announcement. We track every platform claim on our Scorecard, and if Rockstar ever confirms a new platform, we will label it confirmed there the moment it is official.

For now, the honest answer stands: GTA 6 is a PS5 and Xbox Series X/S game, with no PS4 or Xbox One version planned.
